The Illustrated Book Club on Facebook

book covers, crowdfunding, news, Patreon, social media, The Illustrated Book Club

A quick announcement to let everyone know that TIBC now has its own Facebook page (see here). Join me there to chat, suggest titles, and moan about Facebook (well, I’ll be moaning about Facebook – you’re welcome to join me…). Also, just a reminder that TIBC is also on Goodreads (for book discussion) and Patreon (for sketches, giveaways, postcards… etc).

The Illustrated Book Club – Now on Goodreads

crowdfunding, Patreon, social media, The Illustrated Book Club, Uncategorized

Hi Everyone,

The Illustrated Book Club now has an associated Goodreads reading group – to discuss books, suggest titles, etc. It’s already got a few members – check it out here.

You don’t need to support me on Patreon to join the discussion on Goodreads, and you can suggest titles, see links to the finish book covers. However, you won’t be able to vote on titles, get discounts, see work in progress, be eligible for giveaways and other rewards, and so on.

Just a reminder that all books covered will be public domain, so there’ll be a free etext somewhere, which means you can take part free.

See you there!

Gareth.

Copyright and Fan Art: An Illustrator’s View

First of all, for anyone who needs to know, here is a statement to make clear my position on copyright and fan art:

The Illustrated Book Club on Patreon

My new Patreon page is now live. Each month or so, members of The Illustrated Book Club get to vote and suggest from a list of titles drawn from public domain fiction, non-fiction and short stories. We then discuss these (like a normal book club) while I provide illustrations. Members/supporters also get discounts on original art, commissions, prints and other rewards.

The first book is Dickens’ Oliver Twist. Visit my Patreon page to find out more. Go here to join/vote/suggest. We are shortly about to vote on the next book – the current voting suggestions are below.

The List

(Votes will be added in brackets after each candidate as they appear)

  1. Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
  2. Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte
  3. A Study in Scarlet, Arthur Conan Doyle
  4. The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde
  5. The Memoirs of Jacques Casanova de Seingalt, Casanova
  6. Gulliver’s Travels, Jonathan Swift
  7. The Prince, Niccolò Machiavelli

Thanks!

Gareth.

Preparing for the Exhibition

exhibitions, news, original art, Patreon

So, I’ve just come to the end of the artist residency at Gower College Swansea. Last month, I did a little exhibition at Mission Gallery, Swansea with fellow artists in residence, Jason and Becky, and this coming month will see a joint show with them at Elysium Gallery, Swansea.

So, I’m currently preparing some new work, which I’ll be showing with some recent and older pieces. I’ll be sharing these as I finish them, as well as works in progress, sketches and doodles, via the usual social networks and Patreon (where the interested can support and follow me).

The exhibition will start on August 7th, and run through August 30th. You can read more details about the show here.
